Andria McClellan Files Petitions to Become Lieutenant Governor Candidate

March 8th, 2021

Richmond, VA- This afternoon, Andria McClellan, a member of the Norfolk City Council, filed 3,500 signatures to appear on the Democratic primary ballot as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.

“Because of the pandemic, running a campaign has been transformed; each of these signatures represent someone who put in the effort to get me on the ballot,” said Councilwoman McClellan, “I am honored by the support and I’m looking forward to a campaign that discusses the Commonwealth’s most pressing issues – like access to good jobs, access to reliable high-speed internet and a government that works for all Virginians.”

Andria McClellan currently represents 125,000 Norfolk residents, the largest constituency of any Democratic candidate in the Lt. Governor’s race. As of the last financial reporting, Andria McClellan had raised seventy-eight percent of her campaign funds from Virginians – the most of any candidate.

“The support we have seen from across the Commonwealth reinforces the innovative campaign we are running that highlights Andria’s record and prioritizes engaging with Virginians,” said Tova Yampolsky, Councilwoman McClellan’s campaign manager. “This approach will be our key to success in this primary. Don’t forget, people start voting in 47 days.”

Andria is running for Lieutenant Governor to ensure that Virginians who have been counted out and pushed aside have the chance to get ahead by ensuring access to vital resources and the necessary tools to build an inclusive Commonwealth.

To date, Andria is the only candidate to have received a Congressional endorsement, having been endorsed by Congresswoman Elaine Luria. She has also received support from Congressman Glenn Nye, Susan Platt, Virginia Senator Lynwood Lewis and Senator Dave Marsden, and numerous local officials.
