Andria McClellan Announces New NOVA Endorsements
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 9th, 2021
Norfolk, Virginia — Councilwoman Andria McClellan, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Virginia Lieutenant Governor, today announced three key endorsements from northern Virginia, an important part of the Commonwealth in the primary contest.
Fairfax County Supervisor for Mason District Penny Gross, former Arlington County Board Member Jay Fisette, Virginia’s first LGBTQ elected official, and Margi Vanderhye, former House of Delegates member representing Virginia House District 34, which covers Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, have all thrown their support behind Norfolk Councilwoman Andria McClellan.
“As Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, Andria will bring a passion for resolving issues affecting all Virginians — water, the environment, broadband, and educational opportunities that lead to good jobs. Andria doesn’t spout platitudes; she has local government experience and she works to find solutions. I am proud to support her candidacy,” said Fairfax County Supervisor Gross.
“In a strong Democratic field, Andria has three strengths that distinguish her. First, Andria has been elected and served in local government which is a valuable perspective to bring to Richmond. Second, Andria’s values and decision-making reflect a rare combination of progressive idealism and real-world pragmatism. Finally, Andria is deeply committed to address climate change, which I consider the moral imperative of our time. I am proud to endorse Andria McClellan for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia,” said Mr. Fisette, former Arlington County Board Chair.
“Virginia needs and deserves creative, knowledgeable leaders with skills in business and government. Andria has both: she has the experience and the judgment to promote a vibrant 21st century economy, a more just society, and a sustainable environment for all Virginians. Andria knows how to listen and how to make decisions – two critical skills that I believe are essential in an effective leader,” said Ms. Vanderhye, former Virginia Delegate, HD-34.
Andria McClellan currently represents 125,000 Norfolk residents, the largest constituency of any Democratic candidate in the Lieutenant Governor’s race. As of the last financial reporting, Andria McClellan is proud to have raised 78% of her campaign funds from within Virginia – the most of any candidate in either the Democratic or Republican LG field.
These endorsements come on the heels of thousands of Virginians signing Councilwoman McClellan’s petition to appear on the Democratic ballot for Lieutenant Governor.
“The combined years of dedication and experience in serving the people of Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun counties, and advancing Democratic priorities, between these three leaders is inspiring,” said Councilwoman McClellan. “I’m honored to have their support and value their counsel in understanding and acting on the needs of northern Virginians.”
